WE GIVE A SECOND LIFE TO MORE THAN 90% OF OUR INDUSTRIAL WASTE
This certification issued by AENOR guarantees that companies that obtain it valorize 90% of their industrial waste. This means that instead of going to a landfill, the waste has a second life, whether by reusing it, creating new raw materials, or shredding it to obtain solid fuel.
Achieving Zero Waste certification has been extremely important for Fama, as we have ensured that 99.985% of the waste generated in the last eight months has had a second life, preventing it from ending up in a landfill.
Since obtaining ISO 14001 certification four years ago, we have focused on continuing to work on reducing our industrial waste. Caring for the environment has been part of our DNA for decades, although it has been in the last ten years that we have made greater efforts to fulfill our mission of being a company that contributes to sustainability. We have changed part of our production processes (sometimes with many added difficulties) to achieve the waste reuse data that today certifies us as a company committed to the environment.
Interestingly, the inspiration to achieve this certification came from an episode of "The Simpsons," as our CEO, Félix López, shares in this blog post.
One of the most significant changes has been the management of waste generated by fabric cutting machines. Previously, large amounts of industrial waste were discarded after this process, but now we have managed to ensure that, thanks to its reuse, it does not end up in any landfill. This project has led to Fama being selected in the '101 Business Examples of #ForTheClimate' initiatives.
All these efforts have also been recognized by organizations such as BBVA, which awarded Fama in the first edition of the 'Revoluciona Awards' for its work in sustainability, innovation, and work-life balance.
All these awards and recognitions motivate us to continue in our particular race to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment through a series of actions that collectively yield significant results.
